Bearded Dragon Kingdom

Can you feed bearded dragons bananas?

Bearded dragons can eat bananas, but only in moderation. They can also eat the banana peel. Clean the outside of the banana (unpeeled) very well.

Bananas can be a choking hazard, so be sure to cut pieces to small bite-sizes.  If you’re not sure what size to cut the pieces into, a good rule of thumb is that the pieces should not be any larger/wider than the space between your beaded dragon’s eyes.

Are bananas good for bearded dragons?

If you’ve wondered if you can you feed bearded dragons bananas – you can, but keep it in moderation. Give your beardie bananas only once or twice a

MONTH

Bananas should be given sparingly to your bearded dragon – once or twice a month is fine. Though the banana offers potassium, vitamins A and C, antioxidants, some calcium, and iron, they also have a large ratio of phosphorus.

Foods with larger ratios of phosphorus prevent calcium from being absorbed, and bearded dragons really rely on calcium. Continuously feeding your bearded dragon phosphorus-rich foods can lead to metabolic bone disease (MDB), which can be deadly to your dragon.

Bananas also contain a good amount of sugar, which should be consumed in moderation, for both bearded dragons and their humans.

Treat your bearded dragon with some fresh fruit

Below is a general guide of fruits you can feed your beaded dragon, and how often you can add them to his or her diet. Keep in mind that all fruits have sugar. Fruits should be tasty additions to your beardies’ salad, not the main course. Give your beardie a variety of fruits, but remember – they should not have fruit every day. Never give your bearded dragon fruit out of a can, fresh fruit is the way to go. Make sure the fruit is properly washed and served in bite-sized pieces.
