Bearded Dragon Kingdom

Is a Bearded Dragon the Right Pet for You?

Bearded dragons are becoming more popular as pets, and they can make great companions, but they do require some special care. Before you bring one home, it’s important to do your research and make sure you know how to care for them properly. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Provide your bearded dragon with a warm, dry environment. They come from the desert, so they need a basking spot (heated with a basking light) that is around 95 degrees Fahrenheit. They will also need a UV bulb to simulate sunlight, and all the benefits of the sun. Bearded dragons are active creatures, and they need a large enclosure to explore. Invest in a good quality reptile tank that is roomy enough for the size of your bearded dragon.

Feed your bearded dragon a varied diet of insects and vegetables. Bearded dragons are omnivores, so they need both protein and vegetables to stay healthy.

Handle your bearded dragon regularly. Bearded dragons are social creatures, and they enjoy being handled by their owners. Keep in mind that bearded dragons need to be handled carefully. They can be skittish, and their skin is delicate. Always wash your hands BEFORE handling your bearded dragon, and be gentle when you pick them up. When you return your beardie to the safety of his or her enclosure, always wash your hands AFTER handling your dragon to avoid getting sick from Salmonella.

By following these tips, you can help your bearded dragon thrive.
